Morestone’s VW Micro Bus No.12: A Small Model with a Big Run

From Petrol Pumps to Popularity

Morestone didn’t just make toy cars—they made miniature legends. One of their best-loved models, the No.12 Volkswagen Micro Bus, stood out in the ‘Esso’ Petrol Pump Series. Even after the series ended, the Micro Bus refused to retire. In fact, Morestone reissued it twice, proving its lasting appeal.

Inspired by a Mid-Century Classic

The model took its shape from the split-screen VW Micro Bus of the mid-1950s. Modern Products Ltd. built it for Morestone, adding all the right details. It came with a full set of side windows—and even a rear one—giving it a realistic touch straight from the factory floor.

Colours, Chrome, and Character

At first, Morestone painted the ‘Esso’ version tan-brown with silver touches on the headlights, front bumper, and VW logo. Details That Mean Business

Look underneath and you’ll see a black base, either shiny or matt. It proudly states ‘Volkswagen Micro Bus’, ‘Made in England’, and ‘No.12’ at the rear. Four tabs lock the base into place, fitting snugly into the body’s side holes—no screws, no nonsense.

Wheels That Work

Morestone experimented with wheel types on earlier models, but here, they played it smart. They fitted sturdy, unpainted metal wheels held by flat-head, crimped axles. The result? A smooth, reliable roll every time.

Boxed and Beloved

Thanks to its popularity, the No.12 appeared in several types of ‘Esso’ boxes. Although few survived today, they remain desirable. The VW link boosts its collectability and keeps its market value surprisingly firm.
