Decimus Junius Albinus Brutus

Decimus Junius Albinus Brutus, a member of the Junia family like M. Junius Brutus (frequently mistaken for him), became part of the gens Junia after being adopted by Aulus Postumius Albinus, an addition he made to his name. Within Caesar’s inner circle of supporters, Decimus Brutus had already aligned himself with Caesar during the Gallic War. Caesar entrusted him with a specific command against Vercingetorix, the Arveni chieftain and Gaulish leader.

Throughout the Civil War between Pompey and Caesar, Decimus Brutus actively participated. His proximity to Caesar was so significant that Caesar named him as his heir in his will, in case something were to happen to Octavianus, his true heir.
