Domitian was the son of Vespasian, who founded the Flavian dynasty. Vespasian rose to power after the chaotic ‘Year of the Four Emperors’ and stabilized the Roman Empire. Domitian ruled with autocratic authority, expanding the empire’s borders and strengthening its economy but was ultimately assassinated in 96 AD.
Struck when Domitian was serving as Caesar, the reverse tile, PRINCEPS IVVENTVTIS meaning “the first amongst the young” a title given to young men who were considered to be the next emperor.
