79-81AD Titus Silver Denarius – gFine & Scarce
Titus, son of Vespasian, ruled Rome from 79 to 81 AD and was known for his generosity and leadership. He completed the Colosseum and led relief efforts after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. His reign was short, as he died suddenly in 81 AD, possibly from illness or poisoning, though the exact cause remains uncertain.
Graded as a good Fine, natural toning with a good portrait of the emperor for condition, a scarcer type with emperor facing left.
This fascinating reverse type features an elephant, symbolizing the dedication of Rome’s historically significant Colosseum. To the Romans, elephants held various meanings, with their African origins making them a natural symbol of the continent, also suggesting the personification of Africa
