Then, during Caesar’s Gallic campaigns, he distinguished himself through courage and sharp command. Notably, he played a key role in the naval victory against the Veneti. Therefore, Caesar rewarded him with high office and trust. Moreover, Caesar even named Decimus as a potential heir, which made their bond appear unbreakable.

Friendship with Julius Caesar

Following Caesar’s death, Decimus attempted to defend the Republic. However, Mark Antony pursued him relentlessly. Consequently, Decimus fled, only to meet capture and execution in 43 BC. Ultimately, history remembers him as a tragic contradiction: a trusted friend turned betrayer, a republican who destroyed a man yet failed to save the Republic.
