Herennius Etruscus was a Roman emperor who briefly co-ruled with his father, Decius, in 251 AD during a time of intense military conflict. He was killed in battle against the Goths at the Battle of Abritus, shortly before his father also perished, leading to a swift end to his reign.
The reverse instription ‘PRINC IVVENTVTIS’, a title that translates to “the first amongst the young”. It was a title given to young men who were thought to be the next emperor in the Roman Empire. A title or a curse? As he was killed alongside his father the same year he was elected Augustus.
Graded as almost Extremely Fine, reverse good Very Fine. Bold portrait and of good metal, a pleasing example with nice eye appeal.
