Elagabalus, born Varius Avitus Bassianus, was a Roman emperor from 218 to 222 AD, known for his eccentric behavior and religious fanaticism. He attempted to impose the worship of the Syrian sun god Elagabal, which alienated the Roman elite and led to widespread opposition. His rule ended violently when he was assassinated by the Praetorian Guard, along with his mother, and replaced by his cousin Severus Alexander.
