Solido: A French Die-Cast Classic
The Beginning
Solido began its story in France in 1932, when entrepreneur Ferdinand de Vazeilles used his experience in metal casting to create innovative toys. Unlike many simple tin toys of the period, Solido developed sturdy, multi-part models that children could assemble and enjoy. Consequently, the brand quickly earned a reputation for quality and durability.
A Lasting Legacy
Furthermore, Solido became especially famous for its realistic die-cast vehicles. In 1957, it launched its celebrated 1:43 scale Series 100, beginning with the Jaguar Type D Le Mans. Later, the company produced cars, military vehicles and lorries, becoming a favourite among both children and collectors.
Ultimately, Solido remains an important name in vintage French toys. After more than ninety years, its little metal cars have proved remarkably durable—rather like the enthusiasm of the collectors who chase them.
