1948 Palestine Saving Bonds
The Palestine Saving Bonds of 1948 were issued in Egypt during the reign of King Farouk to raise funds connected with the Palestine War and support the Egyptian war effort. The bonds formed part of a series of six denominations, ranging from 50 and 100 piastres to 5, 10, 50 and 100 Egyptian pounds.
Moreover, the obverse features a portrait of King Farouk, together with Arabic text identifying the Higher Nile Valley Authority for the Rescue of Palestine and noting approval by the Ministry of Social Affairs. The reverse remains blank.
Today, these paper bonds provide a fascinating reminder of Egypt’s involvement in the 1948 Arab–Israeli War and the financial campaigns surrounding it.
