This is a fantastic original art work was probably produced around 1942. General Douglas MacArthur was the commander of the US and Filipino garrison. When the Japanese advanced through Asia and invaded the Philippines in December 1941, President Roosevelt ordered MacArther to abandon his position in the Philippines was ordered to escape along with his family members to Australia, He was then appointed Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in the South-West Pacific Area and was soon to establish his headquarters in Brisbane.
This art work is likely to have been used in print around this period.

Robert. D. Gustafson
Gustafson born the 8th August 1920 in Brookline, Massachusetts. He served as a pilot in the US Army and pitched semi-pro baseball in the boston area.
His work first appeared in the Bostonian magazine in the early 1940s. In the 1950s, he did gag cartoons for Ladies’ Home Journal, Ridgefield Press, Good Housekeeping, The Saturday Evening Post, Collier’s and Judge. He assisted on Russ Westover’s Tillie the Toiler strip for King Features. After Westover departed, Gustafson’s signature appeared on the strip beginning October 4, 1954 and ending March 7, 1959.
He also assisted the famous cartoon Beetle Bailey by Mort Walker along with a number of other cartoonists.
