18th Century Georgian Mahogany & Brass Folding Guinea Scales
Once the brass hinge at the end of the case is pushed in, the lid then opens and the twin brass columns automatically rise into the working position. The coin in question is placed on the suspended arm which registers on the graduations, to show variances in the value of either under or overweight coins.
Normally with the markers label to one side, in the case of these scales the labels are both the same each side. Possibly made by Anthony Wilkinson of Kirkby, who was one of the more popular makers of these type of scales.
In great condition, the lid to case is slightly warped else no cracks to the outer, labels present and legible.
