A choice example, attractively toned with iridescent hues.

Manius Aemilius Lepidus

A member of one of Rome’s greatest Patrician families. He governed the eastern province between 84-78B.C. In 69B.C, he rose to the title of Praetor and then later in 66B.C. consult a position he held along with Lucius Volcatius Tullus

When the Civil war broke out in 49B.C between Julius Caesar and Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus he retired from his position and retreated to his Villa in the city of Formia on the Appian Way between Rome and Naples. It was from here that he watched history unfold.

It is reported from written correspondence between Cicero and himself that he chose not to join Pompey but would rather submit to Julius Caesar if he would triumph in his cause.
