1087-1100 Great Britain William II Rufus Penny – gVF & Rare
Third son of William “the Conqueror’, known as ‘Rufus’ latin for Red, either due to his ruddy appearance, however more likely due to his red hair as a child. William II silver pennies are rare, especially as found in the condition as presented here!
Struck at the Chichester mint by the hand of the moneyer Edwine. Struck circa 1089-1092.
Nicely toned, typical areas of flat strike however a bold portrait with strong detail.
